Shifra Haran (1913-1988) was Welles’ personal secretary throughout the tumultuous 1940s. She was the dedicated, front-row witness to his stormy relationship with the Hollywood studios, expected to be on call 24 hours a day to take down the great man’s new ideas. She played bit, silent parts in some of his movies.
She later left Orson’s service – after his divorce from Rita Hayworth – and became Rita’s assistant.
On Shifra’s later life, here an Los Angeles Times article about the estate left by her sister Tweedy, whose in-laws, the Camarillos, founded the namesake California city.
